Manchester’s Cornerhouse and mac birmingham will present a unique exhibition of the work of artist and writer Qasim Riza Shaheen. Shown in two halves across two venues, the exhibition brings together a number of new commissions, and revisits work spanning the artist’s twenty year practice. Both in Birmingham and Manchester, it explores his persisting interest in the city, identity, relationships and those often fleeting moments of intimacy and awkwardness. The last known pose – the Birmingham half of the exhibition – builds upon his 2010 residency at mac and his fascination with the role of the artist as author, object and protagonist. The other half of this exhibition, Autoportraits in love-like conditions, takes place at Cornerhouse, 6 September – 2 November 2014.
